Statistics for the first half of 2006:

 

 

Physical sales (units) decreased by 3.4% compared to first half of 2005

 

 

CD sales remained stable

 

 

MC sales continue to decrease

 

 

Downloads increased by 36%, roughly 10 million single tracks and 700,000 bundles
(However: below industry expectations, mainly because of illegal download platforms.)

 

 

Single CD sales decreased by 14.5%

 

 

Music DVD sales increased by 10% to 4.4 million units

 

 

  

Point of sale for recorded music:

 

 

About 66% of music is purchased through retailers

 

Approximately 30% of music is purchased through specialised mail order companies
(internet or regular mail-order)

 

The remaining 4% comes from miscellaneous services including digital downloads
